The Zombie Apocalypse experience at Universal Studios Japan was one of the highlights of our visit. The atmosphere was immersive, and the interaction between the performers and the crowd made it a brilliant photographic opportunity. The lighting and the reactions around me made many frames feel as though they had come straight from a zombie film.
Photographing the event was challenging. The light was limited, the opportunities were brief and the performers could appear unexpectedly. I chose to work in black and white because it suited the horror atmosphere and helped simplify the changing colours of the scene.
The performers interacted actively with visitors, creating dramatic poses and moments that made for action-packed photographs. Whether someone was pretending to fight off a zombie or reacting in panic, each encounter had its own energy.
The event took place after dark, and the combination of low light, fog and theatrical lighting heightened the atmosphere. It was a challenging setting, but exactly the kind of situation I enjoy photographing.
